them here.
We are always looking for experienced, qualified
motorcyclists to become Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) instructors
(now called RiderCoaches) and to
support our growing rider education program.
Under its contract with DMV, the Motorcycle Association of New York
State, Inc. (MANYS) oversees the conduct of the MSF programs in New York.
This includes RiderCoach development. More
information on New York's
Motorcycle Safety Program can be found elsewhere on the
MANYS web site.
Information on the Basic RiderCourse can also be found at:
http://www.msf-usa.org
RiderCoach candidates must be sponsored by the training
site where they intend to teach. To find the MANYS training sites near
you, go back to the MANYS home page or call 1-888-4NY-RIDE (469-7433). I would
recommend you contact the training site administrator to discuss the role
of the RiderCoach, scheduling, availability, etc. and to observe or take
the Basic RiderCourse.
MANYS has a set training schedule for each region. Contact
your sponsoring site administrator to find out the dates for your
area.
All RiderCoach Preparation Course candidates must meet
or exceed Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) standards. In addition,
RiderCoach candidates should be thoroughly interviewed by the Site
Administrator. Candidates must have a clear understanding of
the responsibilities of MANYS recognized RiderCoaches. In order
to be considered a qualified candidate, sponsoring Site Administrators
must ensure that the following conditions are met:
The candidate must have taken or observed an
entire Basic RiderCourse (BRC) with a Lead RiderCoach, Site Administrator,
or RiderCoach Trainer within 12 months prior to the RiderCoach Preparation
Course. It is preferred that a candidate participate (as a student) in a
complete BRC prior to enrollment in a RiderCourse Preparation Course.
The candidate must have a clear understanding
of the RiderCoach Preparation Course passing criteria and the study load
that is required in order to successfully complete it.
It is also the responsibility of the Site
Administrator to insure that RiderCoach candidates are mentored
(preferably by a RiderCoach Trainer) to insure, as much as possible, each
candidate's success in the RiderCoach Preparation Course.
The following are excerpts from MANYS and DMV regulations:
New York State Points
Insurance Reduction Plan (PIRP) Qualifications for RiderCoaches.
All RiderCoach applications must be reviewed and approved

for point and insurance reduction benefits. The RiderCoach must
